Disclosure: This unit is provided by Cooler Master.

About the Masterkeys Lite…

Cooler Master has a history of three keyboard and mouse combos so far (that I know of- Devastator and Octane). This is the MasterKeys Lite combo kit with RGB lighting. This keyboard looks very similar to the more premium Masterkeys Pro L, the new Cherry MX mechanical keyboard. The highlight of the Masterkeys Lite is its ‘mem-chanical’ switch. As you would have guessed by now, it provides the feel of the mechanical keys. Which mechanical key type it emulates? That matters too!!

A lot of people would pick such peripheral combos since it makes it easier to choose. It provides a foundation for those looking for a good deal and eventually stepping up to look out for a better keyboard in the future. Such combos need to last long, easy to maintain and have a decent built quality. Till this date, I still have the CM Octane combo. Almost all the written content was done on that keyboard. While its bundled mouse’s shell is annoying, the keyboard works like a charm even till date. CM Octane keyboard is a great peripheral which lasted long with my type of workload, thus being durable. Therefore, Masterkeys Lite has big shoes to fill as a successor. Judging by the aesthetics, the mouse is a much better improvement. That is indeed a good start.

Packaging

Coolermaster’s packaging for keyboard and keyboard/mouse combo is pretty standard.

Top Packaging Base Packaging Keyboard Layers Inner Packaging

The packaging emphasizes about the switch. As you can see, there are multiple layers to emulate that mechanical feel when actuated. The dome completes the circuit needed to get registered by the system. The main “chunk of mem-chanical” is the plunger and the support housing. The plunger is kept transparent as it slides through the housing. For proper illumination, it would require it to be transparent.  The another benefit is that it’s compatible with Cherry MX switches. Seeing that there are multiple options to buy keycaps for Cherry MX switches, this would look as a good option for some people. That said, aftermarket keycaps would most likely most same or more than the combo itself.

The keyboard is in a plastic bag while the mouse is protected by a soft foam.
